Missy Elliott Makes History as First Female Hip Hop Artist to Be Nominated to The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Missy Elliott has been nominated for the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This makes her the first woman in hip-hop to do this. This is a huge honor. she said “I’m so humbled and grateful to be counted amongst all the incredible honorees,” “I’ve spent my career making the kind of music I love and it means so much to know that I have touched others as well.”

She went on to say, “But to hear that I am the first female hip hop artist to EVER be nominated into the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame?!? Wow!! This one hits extra differently as I hope it opens doors for other female emcees to be recognized!”

Throughout her lifetime, Missy Elliott has won five Grammys, a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame, a street name in her hometown in Virginia, the 2019 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and became the first rapper in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2021, this is just to name a few. The 2023 induction ceremony for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is set to take place later this year.
