The Philadelphia City Council has unanimously voted to permanently ban R. Kelly after Councilwoman Helen Gym revealed the decision on Twitter last week. “Today our resolution honoring the #MuteRKelly movement passed in @PHLCouncil,” Gym said. “Philly stands with survivors.”

Gym goes on to mention that the city rejects a system that silences black women and accepts black pain. She mentions how Kelly is no longer welcomed to the city and that the council believes the survivors that spoke up.

Following the Surviving R. Kelly documentary, R. Kelly was at the center of every discussion with many organizations and entertainers supporting the #MuteRKelly movement. The hashtag managed to gain traction online and its influence has surpassed the online forums.

“This symbolic act of solidarity puts all sexual predators on notice.” Gym told CBS Philly.
