The “Joker” was released this weekend and made over $93.5 million at 4,374 sites. It starred Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. Many people feared this movie would create some problems due to the tragic shooting in Aurora back in 2012. Therefore, One Los Angeles theater canceled its screenings of the film after police reported a “credible” threat. Even in New York City, the NYPD reportedly placed undercover officers in the area.

The movie still had outstanding results, even with the controversy it had. The movie is officially the biggest movie for Producer Todd Philips, even surpassing The Hangover 2, which made $85.9 million. The movie had mixed reviews.

The Guardian responded, “The year’s biggest disappointment has arrived. It emerges with weirdly grownup self-importance from the tulip fever of festival awards season as an upscale spin on an established pop culture brand.” The movie still made its money and surpassed all the negative outcomes people thought it would have.
