Missy Elliott and Timbaland got fans excited for new music last week, as they posted a picture on Instagram teasing a collaboration. Both have been working together for years and have created timeless music that bumps today. During this process they worked with the late Aaliyah. Now, they’re facing a lawsuit over unpaid royalties from Aaliyah’s “Heartbroken.”

According to TMZ, Terry Owens, the songwriter, said he helped Missy create the song around ‘94-‘95. However, she did not use the track, as she allegedly sold it to Aaliyah without his authorization. Williams claims that neither party paid him for his work on the track.

He alleges Missy Elliott kept his work on the song a secret so he would not get a profit. Missy and Timbo have not commented on the alleged unpaid royalties as of yet.
