Sex and the City Star Cynthia Nixon Joins Olivia Rodrigo for Festive New Video

By Mariana A Nov 7, 2026 | 11:53 PM

Cynthia Nixon wasn’t expecting an invitation from Olivia Rodrigo, but the singer had a special role in mind for the Sex and the City actress.

During a November 5 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Nixon revealed that she was surprised and thrilled when Rodrigo asked her to appear in the music video for her holiday single, “Take Me Home (4 Christmas).”

Nixon described Rodrigo as kind, lovely, and fun to work with.

Released November 6, the video features Nixon playing the mother of a character portrayed by Saturday Night Live cast member Ben Marshall. The holiday-themed story follows Rodrigo imagining Christmas celebrations with her boyfriend’s family.

The collaboration also has a connection to Sex and the City. Rodrigo previously revealed that she’s a devoted fan of the series, particularly the relationship between Miranda Hobbes, played by Nixon, and Steve Brady.

That storyline even helped inspire music on Rodrigo’s latest album.

Following the video’s release, Nixon shared her appreciation on Instagram, thanking Rodrigo for including her in the festive project.
