Nearly two weeks following his conviction for the death of the late George Floyd, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s attorney has filed a motion for a new trial.
Found guilty on all charges of second degree unintentional murder, second degree manslaughter and third degree murder, the motion filed cites alleged errors by the judge prosecutorial misconduct, witness intimidation and the impact of publicity. According to CNN, attorney Eric Nelson’s filing stated those factors included “the interests of justice; abuse of discretion that deprived the Defendant of a fair trial; prosecutorial and jury misconduct; errors of law at trial; and a verdict that is contrary to law.”
