Lamar Odom‘s new book “Darkness to Light” is set to drop soon, with tons of insight involving the former NBA player’s ups and downs. In an excerpt published by PEOPLE, Lamar opened up about his experience during the 2004 Summer Olympics where he used a prosthetic penis to pass a drug test in order to compete with the national team.

“The joy of being named to the twelve-man roster quickly turned to anxiety when Olympic officials informed me that I would have to pass a drug test before officially joining the team,” Odom wrote.

Odom went on to say how playing for the U.S. basketball team was one of the biggest honors of his career, but knew he wouldn’t pass. That’s when panic set in to the former Lakers’ star, which prompted him to purchase the prosthetic penis and use his trainer’s clean pee.

Ultimately Odom got away with the plan, which led to the U.S. national team earning a bronze medal that summer.
